AknalitjArmenian Water and Sewerage Company was set up on January 1971 by the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the former Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic in the system of the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services.

In 1990 according to the Law on Enterprises the Company was reorganized into the state enterprise of special significance and in 1999 it was reorganized into the close joint stock company with 100 percent of shares belonging to the state (at present to the RA State Committee of Water Economy).

Currently the Company carries out its activities through 4 regional branches, 19 sectors and 17 subsectors.

The Company jointly with its regional branches is responsible for operation and maintenance of water and wastewater systems of 37 towns and 268 rural communities.

Water and wastewater intercommunity networks are the property of the communities and by the RA Government Resolution of 1999 were transferred to the Company for 10 years gratis utilization based on the contracts concluded with communities.

According to Resolution number 59-A of the RA State Committee on Economic Competition of June 7, 2006, the “AWSC” CJSC is considered to have dominant position in the potable water commodity market of its servicing perimeter

The Company provides services to 266000 customers out of which about 170000 enjoy monthly services.

By Resolution number 27-N of the RA Committee on Regulating Public Services dated March 22, 2005, the following tariffs have been defined and entered into force (VAT inclusive) since May 1, 2005.
